I opened a csv file with about 9500 numbers in a column.  I inserted a chart 
with data sourced from that column and it took more than five minutes to draw.  
Memory for the soffice process spiked at more than 100MB and CPU was at 100% 
all the way. Available physical memory varied between 16MB and 60MB, so it was 
not paging. Open applications included Outlook Express 5, Eclipse, Explorer.  

The same process in MS Excel took less than 10 seconds.  

Resizing the graph took more than 3 minutes.

My System spec:
PIII 450MHz
256MB physical memory
Win2k Service Pack 2
Default JRE installed: 1.4.2
