Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 102822
Chart elements do not handle subscripts/italics/etc.
Last modified: 2009-06-22 15:14:14 UTC
In many scientific applications, it is useful to have axis that have fancier stuff that straightforward characters. For example, you might want (and sometimes do want) to have an axis such as <i>I</i>_z (italics I, subscript z) or <b>B</b> (bold B). Other times you would like to have an axis labeled Mass (MeV/c^2), Speed (m/s^2), or Force (kg·m/s^2) (^2 denotes a superscript 2). Yet other times you would like to have a Chart titled something like <i>A<i>_0 sin(<i>x<i>)/<i>x</i>. This doesn't seem all that hard to implement and users would greatly benefit from it.
headbomb: Although you can not add them directly to the title objects without using the somewhat limited 'Insert | Special Character' method, one can create in the formula editor much of what you want, in a cell on the sheet. Then copy the formula in the cell and paste it into the chart, placing it where the different titles would be located. However, once pasted into the chart you cannot edit the formula. TomW
