With and without feature enabled

It would be very convenient for OpenOffice to have the ability to toggle automatically resizing the chart around the legend. It's very tedious for the user to have to resize and move the chart around the legend, so it should be enabled by default.
This feature could be disabled by a check box in Chart->Edit->Format Legend->Position.

The feature could also improve interoperability with Microsoft Office files, since they have the ability to toggle this setting.

Looks like an user error, and currently I can't see much benefit of such a feature. Nobody needs the "Before" situation in reporter's screenshot, and the "After" situation is default for AOO ("Format -< Legend -> Position -> Left' avoids overlaping.

@slacka:
Please attach an Excel document what causes problems when you open it in AOO or contribute a step by step instruction how to create an AOO document from the scratch and in what cases such a feature might be useful.

Simple .odt chart not resizing anymore

It's easy to reproduce by following these steps:
1) Create chart in Calc with legend
2) Move legend anywhere in chart
3) Chart->Edit->Format Legend->Position-> select Top, bot, left, or right

In my attachment, the legend is no longer resized when using position function. In Excel, you can do follow these same steps, and it will always resize, as long as the option described above checked.

Excel doc showing loss of resize flag when opened in Calc

Improved Excel interoperability is only a side benefit, but it's also easy to demonstrate. In a space constrained doc, the user might uncheck the option. Since Calc does not understand this flag, the attached chart is shrunk in Calc but maximized in its original Excel form.

The main reason I suggested this feature is to give the user control over auto-scaling behavior and give them an easy way to re-enable it if it gets disabled.

There is a bug in AOO Chart Legend formatting, a fix for that probably will make this feature request superfluous.

I will report a new bug for that after some additional research tomorrow (my today's time slot for AOO QA is over)

As long as that bug will exist it's not useful to think about this feature request, so WONTFIX

@slacka:
I will add you to CC to the new bug report tomorrow, please watch progress and decide after fix whether you want to reopen this Bug report because still improvement will be required.
