Chart objects on calc sheets have an option save copy as... on the context 
menu. However, the save dialog doesn't show any file types to save and if I try 
to save anyway, I get an error about invalid parameters.

Hi Mathias,

it seems to be yours. Have a look at BugID:95885 in our internal
tracking system.

Also I've changed the component to Chart.

This is a well known problem, we already have an internal bug report
for this.

is this an option to export a chart to a bitmap format (tiff, eps
etc?) so that a  chart object is usable as graphic object in latex and
other applications?
I miss this option *badly*!

This is not a missing feature, the bug is that this functionality is
not available ans so it shouldn't show up in the user interface.

You can't save a chart, because you can't load it! What you want is a
kind of export. I don't know if chart can export into any format, but
this would be part of the chart UI.

The "Save Copy as" verb should be removed in chart if it can't support it
