I've reproduced this under Linux and Windows XP SP1a

1. Open a spreadsheet, add some row and column data 
2. Create a "Line and Column" chart on the data
3. Convert the chart type to "Column" only
4. Save the spreadsheet and reopen
The chart has reverted to a Line and Column chart

The symptoms also appear if at point 4, you copy and paste the "Column" chart to
a Writer document (for example) ie the pasted chart changes to a "Line and
Column" chart.

I fear this came in due to the fix for internal bug #103682#.

Sorry, this is a Sun-internal bug number (Subject "Combi-Chart with stacked bars
and lines: only one line after load") from the times before we used Issuezilla.
It was more meant as a personal note for me, when fixing this issue.
