Description bfilmr 2004-11-18 08:34:48 UTC
Excel 97 used to have a feature related to a plugin called Microsoft Map, that would allow an editable map of the U.S. or Europe or the World to be made.
It supposedly allowed states or countries to be colored in, or labeled.
(It has been removed in later versions.) A way to make a chart type that was a map of Europe for example, from a column of data that represented a color or number for each. Then you could easily produce a map coloring in the countries where your business had an office, etc. Also, a 3D view of this map that represented a number as a height could show the amount of sales in various areas; if there were maps done for countries with regions like states, other continents, or the whole World they could work the same way.

Hi Bettina, I don't consider this Issue to be a 'chart' Issue. For me it looks
more like an idea for a kind of customizable geography-addon. There will be
geographical informations needed to present a map, which are not content of the
office as far as I know. Moreover this geographical informations need to be
updated all the time. I could imagine that this feature would be useful, but I
don't see it in the chart application. So I send this Issue back to you for
further evaluation. Thanks.

I'm looking for something just like this - I think the data could be pulled from
Google Maps (cf. the XML at http://stuff.rancidbacon.com/gmaps-standalone/).
I'd be very interested (if not particularly efficient) at contributing work to
an OO.o "plug-in" along these lines.

Why not add on a new module similar to Microsoft MapPoint or Streets and Trips?

Would someone please remove this and the last three comments from this list?
Also fix the interface back the way it was to prevent it from automatically
jumping to the next issue in a list and not clearing the Additional Comments box
like it used to?

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
