Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 3823
Object 'explorer' for charts
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:22:25 UTC
Modifying charts once they have been created is quite simply a pain. Adding or modifying the data ranges I have found so difficult that it's often simpler to just delete the chart and start again. My proposal for an enhancement is a (probably) tree-based chart property editor so that every property of the chart may be modified by descending the object hierarchy to the property or property set that you want to change.
Hi Falko, seems to be a good idea for a new implementation of chart. Regards, Peter
I feel like adding some detail / clarification: The model that inspired my idea was the function helper (structure tab). Each data range could now be a different type (bar / line / x-y(?) / etc) selected from a listbox or similar in properties page, although I'm not sure what restricts that in the current implementation. It should be possible to insert a data range in an existing chart as well as modifying existing elements.
This is an excellent idea. The alternative to the "tree" model might be to have a "series" dialog box for charts. The main dialog box could look like this: Series1 EditData EditProperties Series2 EditData EditProperties Series3 EditData EditProperties [...] IsertNewSeries DeleteSeries MoveSeriesUp MoveSeriesDown Best regards, Stan.
Re-assigned to Matthias Müller-Prove for further evaluation.

->IHA: Sending you these issues so that all unconfirmed enhancements and features are at one place.
A new dialog for modifying the data ranges for series is targeted already within Issue 3997. See the specification at http://specs.openoffice.org/chart/dataselection/FlexibleSourceRangeSelection.sxw *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 3997 ***
