Description Unknown 2002-05-09 16:51:48 UTC
After creating a scatter chart, an providing axis titles for x and y, when
using Autoformat, the x-axis title is defaulted back to "Column A" (or
whatever) instead of retaining the title previously there. The other boxes in
that dialog seem to be ok and it only seems to do this for a scatter chart.

Hi Jonny,

please be so kind and attach a calc document containing such a chart.
I'm not able to reproduce it yet.

Thanks

Frank

Exhibiting the x-axis title bug in Calc
Comment 3 Unknown 2002-05-13 09:14:45 UTC
I've attached a Calc file which is a scatter chart based on data in
Columns A and B. The x and y axes have been titled "my x title"
and "my y title"' respectively. If you edit the chart and select
Autoformat from the menu, and click Next to get to the final screen,
the x axis label "my x title" is set to the (default?) text "Column
A" rather than remembering "my x title".

Hope that makes it clear,
Jonny

Hi Bjoern,

this one is for you.

When you change the chart type to scatter, you get different values
for the x-axis (the numbers coming from one row or column). In all
other chart types you have labels or Row/Column numbers. So I think
it is ok for the auto-pilot to change the x-axis title.

If you want to avoid chaning the title when changing the chart type to
scatter, you may choose the 'Chart Type' menu item instead of
'AutoFormat'.

Sorry to labour my point, but this occurs even if I *don't* change
the chart type, but just modify the existing scatter chart. In my
previously attached example, if I click AutoFormat, Next, click
enable x axis gridlines and then click Create, the current x axis
title is reset to the default and I never even saw the dialog to set
it! [I have yet to find another way (other than autoformat) to add x
axes gridlines to my already created chart.]

I don't see how the system reseting a user-set parameter behind the
user's back is not a bug worthy of fixing! While I appreciate that it
is a minor inconvenience (I worked around it by keeping the text for
my x axis on the clipboard) I don't think the auto-pilot *should*
change the x-axis title if the x contents don't change [ie. if it's
still a scatter graph].

Ok, sorry. That's something different. The title shouldn't change
when you keep the chart type unchanged.

By the way, if you want to enable grids or axes, you may use the items
in the 'Insert' menu.
