Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 58163
Context menus aren't context-specific (enough)
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:19:16 UTC
The context menus for the subcomponents of Chart don't offer enough variation. This gives not enough clues about what subcomponent the user is actually accessing with the context menu, so he's unsure about whether he's going to modify the intended subcomponent or not. (Listing the subcomponent's name in the dialog title isn't enough. It's a step later, and dialog titles are customarily ignores. Well, *I* ignored the title and didn't find out that it would give me the desired clue until I started to investigate deeply enough to write this series of issue reports.) Changed that could be useful to fix this: 1) Remove the "diagram wall" and "diagram area" entries from the context menus. The settings behind these menu entries properly belong to the Object Properties entry of the diagram wall and diagram area, respectively. 2) Don't say "Object Properties" as first entry. Say "X Axis properties", "Main title properties", etc. instead. 3) Place some or all of the tab titles from the subcomponent's Object Properties dialog in the context menu. That should open the Object Properties dialog with the corresponding tab already selected.
-> Iha: Maybe it's help to declare the Context menus structure.
Yes, accepted.
Changed Target to 2.x

reset to new
The context menu was reworked completely within CWS chartuseability01. All details can be found in the specification: http://specs.openoffice.org/chart/ChartContextMenu.odt Regarding this issue 1) The entries "diagram wall" and "diagram area" have been removed somewhere in the past already. 2) The entry "Object Properties" has been replaced by something more descriptive. The offered command now shows the name of the affected object. So it say for example 'Format Legend...', 'Format Title...' or 'Format Major Grid...' instead of only 'Object Properties...'. There is no distinction between x-axis and y-axis for example or the between the different types of titles just to keep the translation effort a little bit lower. Lets see how this works. 3) Single entries to open each single tab of the properties dialog directly have not been offered. Within the new context menu there is offered access to several child and 'sister-elements' and offering each tab page as an own entry would have been too much. If you still think that can fit anyhow into the new structure and should be done please submit a separate issue. Thanks!
Sophie, please verify this enhancement in CWS chartuseability01. When selecting different elements within a chart the first entry in the context menu does open the properties dialog for the selected element. This menu entry now should not be named 'Object Properties...' anymore but instead it should contain the name of the selected element - for example it should be named 'Format Legend...', 'Format Title...', 'Format Axis...' or 'Format Major Grid...'. All the possible menu entries are listed in the new context menu specification: http://specs.openoffice.org/chart/ChartContextMenu.odt Thanks! Ingrid
