spline curves 'intervally' and user-interpolated points
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:22:11 UTC
let spline curves be applied to intervals only. Plus let user select interpolating points.
clarification: applied to chosen intervals only additionally plus ... as an option
Hi Falko, 1 4 you.
Re-assigned to Matthias Müller-Prove for further evaluation.

Reassigned to Björn.
->IHA: Sending you these issues so that all unconfirmed enhancements and features are at one place.
->Lars, could you provide me with real life examples where this feature is needed. Thanks in advance.

I haven't got good examples at hand at the moment, sorry.
It is still not clear to me what this feature should be good for, so I will close this issue now as wontfix.

I know now what's this issue for: If a data range contains more than one type of function one might like to apply a spline curve to the first 10 data points for example and then another different spline curve to the last 10 data points, but all in one chart as one continuous curve. I therefore reopen.
I still don't see the use case. The provided case sounds very theoretically. The effort to implement this cannot be justified.
The problem is, that splines as used in OOo (old and new way) are build in such a way that the second-order derivative is continuous. I don't know Excels way, but from seen curve I would say they have at least first-order derivative continuous. Therefore you cannot use splines to smooth a curve with corners. Up to now you have to define different data series from corner to corner. In physics you will have such corners for example in a graph of a hysteresis.
