Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6939
Suggested enhancement to x-y charts (but not only to them)
Last modified: 2013-09-25 20:42:05 UTC
Here is a two level list of enhancements to common X-Y charts which I find very useful in my day to day practice (but which are a p.i.d.a to produce). The important trick will be to realize them without creating intermediate data ranges or sheets and to keep the link with the source data alive. First level (to allow displaying 5 variables: x and y plus three illustrators) Allow 1. Getting (text) labels for the points from a first range range (including text formats) 2. Getting colors for the points from a second range. 3. Getting point symbol types from a third range. Second level (automatic series splitting) to add information about (up to two) more variables 1. Split a data range automatically into series according to up to two categorical variables (ranges) with n and m levels respectively. Create either: a) a panel of n X-Y graphs (if there is only one categorizing variable) b) a panel of nxm X-Y graphs if there are two. Instead of panels permit also overlays.

Hm, this issue does consist of several different feature request. Maybe someone could be so kind and split it up. - datapoint labels from cell range - datapoint color from cell range - datapoint symbols types from cell range Not sure what is the second level request about?
