Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 70103
Unable to change Y-Axis Scale Intervals with Locale Setting=Norwegian
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:21:01 UTC
When the Language settings - Locale setting is set to "Norwegian" you can not change the interval for a bar chart. You get an error message "Invalid number". The decimal separator in Norwegian is the comma (","). I noticed that the interval values - even when the local setting is set to Norwegian - use the period/point ("."). I tested this by changing the Language settings - locale setting to "English" (I have a multi-interface installation, with both English and Norwegian). When I did so, I was then able to change the intervals as needed. I also noticed that after I changed the interval, I could change the locale setting back to Norwegian and/or just change the formatting of numbers manually. But this is, in my opinion, a bug requiring unnecessary steps/hacks.
adjusted priority to a more applicable value
I checked with "2.0.2 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9011)]" , "2.0.X WIN XP: [680m180 (Build9056)]", "2.0.4RC1 German version WIN XP: [680m3(Build9066)]" and was not able to reproduce the problem. I was able to change Y-axis-scale and decimal separator changed as expected with the locale setting. @droald: please - specify your OS and platform - attach a sample document - provide a more detailed description for the problem. For example I need information what "can noch change" means: Greyed out? changed values without effect? Your not to have the heart to do it ;-) ? - What language setting did you change to what exactly (Nynorsk? Bookmål?)
Ok, I have also tested this some more on another PC that just has the Norwegian installation - single interface install. On the PC that I had problems with I had a multi-interface install, that is, I installed the English version first, then the Norwegian language pack. The PC that has problems uses Windows XP Professional with Dell Latitude D810 laptop, X86. I have tried different language/local settings. The attached screen shots show the settings that did not allow me to change the Y-Axis Major interval/Minor interval. They are not greyed out, but when I enter a number - no matter what the number is - I get an error: "Invalid number". As stated in my original post the default numbers when I take away the check mark for "automatic" are in the format ####.#, for example, that is, with a "period/point" and not a "comma" as is used in Norway. This problem exists ONLY with the multi-language installation (English- Norwegian), which I find valuable for my students since the help files are in English only, and many of the tutorials are in English. One of the important parts of the course curriculum is customer support, where students need to be able to explain how to use OpenOffice both in Norwegian and English. That is why I chose to use the multi-language install. Diana

I just discovered something strange. I noticed in another exercise with a different type of chart that the desimal character was a "comma" as it should be, and I was able to change the intervals with no problems. So, I went back to my original "problem", and checked the chart out again to see if there were different settings. They all looked the same, so I again tried to change the major and minor intervals, but again the desimal character was a "point/period" and I kept getting "invalid number". Then, I inserted a new chart of the same type, based on the same data just below the original "problem" chart. And what do you know, the desimal character was correct, and I was able to change the intervals. Hmm... I don't have any clue to what the problem is with the original chart, and now I don't even know if this can be classified as a bug. I have attached the OpenOffice calc file for your review. Again, I have a multi- language English-Norwegian installation. Diana

Into the first chart you use the Number format English with the decimal separator dot, into the sec. chart you use the Number format Norwegian with the decimal separator comma. So i think thats the problem. In case of your own comment i will close it as "not a bug".
