Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 71666
New chart: Categories cannot be modified in Scattercharts with own data
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:21:50 UTC
I create a "XY (Scatter)" chart with labels as embedded chart in an OOo2.0.4 writer document, see attachment. Open that document with 2.0.4, open the data table and see that you can edit the labels. Now open the document with build9077CWS:chart2mst3. There is no way to edit the labels. It seems to me, that the case "label in a XY chart" has been forgotten in the new Data Editor Dialog.
Created attachment 40658 [details] embedded chart of typ XY with labels
@BM: Indeed, the first column (includes the Labels) in the new Chart Data Dialog is missing.
We no longer offer categories for scatter-charts, as they are not visible in the chart, therefore have no use. At least that is what we thought. We didn't recognize the possibility of showing categories via data point labels. The function of categories is to group the data points of data series. Using this (at least for more than one data series) in a scatter chart (esp. with different x-values) seems at least questionable in general. However, as we still have the categories (they are just not editable at the moment), and editing was possible in OOo 2.0/2.1, we will re-enable this.
changed the summary for being more clear to myself.
Categories are now shown with role "Data Labels"
Fixed in chart2mst3 Milestone 10. Please verify.
changed target to 2.3
seen ok in mst11 -> verified
