I could write all day about specific problems with the Chart Utility in Calc,
but the one single best fix would be that right-clicking the chart area should
bring down a menu that accesses EVERY chart editing function. I should not have
to try clicking different spots on the chart to bring down a menu for, say,
changing axis scales or line colors. In addition, the Object Properties option
should open a box with tabs to EVERY property of the chart, not just lines,
area, and transparency.

Not a defect and not a Spreadsheet problem. Changed to Component Chart and
re-assigned. Maybe it's a double too.
