Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 77347
Redesign of Color Palette, Hatchings, Linestyles, Gradients and Arrowheads
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:31:14 UTC
Color Palette, Hatchings, Linestyles, Gradients and Arrowheads need to be re- worked. This task is the successor of the following issues: - Issue 73869 - Issue 74699 - Issue 77121 - Issue 77122

Seems there is some duplication between Issue 60413 and Issue 77347.
For color palette * we should reorder, recreate the palette. I see the adavantage to no include such big palettes what we submitted in http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=73868 But adding also as loadable palettes is a good way to resolve this problem. I will check how to solve this problem and the possible licensing problems (if there are). Draw and Impreass can handles loading palettes, that is what blocking general palette usage... So we should implemet load/save plaette for every main module. If it is ready we can see how useful the invidiual palettes can be. For hatching * We can say something similar to color palettes. We can include some elements (for example standard hatchinks like 1cm, 1 inch) and some interesting colorful variants. Of course not all hatching shoul include what we submited, but it can find new home in a new palette. For linestyles * We only added some standard linestyles. I can not see any reason why we do no include these standard following linestyles. For arrowheads * Only few styles added here. It is up to you if you include it. I would like to see it in the stream but that is all. Fro gradients * In my opinion we added lot of interesting styles here (but not too much). I want to force to include it in the main release.
I collected the links that show our submissions for this issue: Linestyles: http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/43200/standard.sod Gradients: http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/44947/standard.sog Arrowheads: http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/44946/standard.soe Hatchings: http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/42459/standard.soh Colour palette: http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/42458/standard.soc
Yes, it would be nice to have this integrated.
Please also consider sharing these resources with other common FLOSS apps (like demanded in issue #67648)

->VA: Is this planned for 3.0? 2.x seems not to be the correct target.
VA: Set target to OOo 3.x. We create child tasks for the different palettes with appropriate targets, e.g. a new Color Palette is planned for 3.0.
VA->BH: As there is still some conceptual work to do regarding this issue I reasign it to you.
cl->ih: thank you for taking responsibility for this issue.
To manage the many suggestions for enhancing the color palette, I have created a meta-issue here: Issue 105642 - Re-design and UI improvements for color palettes (meta-issue) The purpose of the new issue is for management only, it does not duplicate specific design requests (that we wish to capture). Many thanks, Andrew

1. "So we should implemet load/save plaette for every main module." Yes, and a menue item "Format > Area" in every main module also. 2. Edit the wiki page, becaue color palettes or gradients are not only for the modul "Draw" [2]. 3. We should change the standard color palette to a neutral and indipendend palette, based on the standard color theory (RGB)[4] and NOT to a nondurrable "modern", companie, region or subjective based palette [3]. Other software like GIMP, Krita, Inkscape, Scribus or other GNOME and KDE applications use a similar color theory based standard palette. The 6 degree base color palette fits good in the current OpenOffice.org color dialog. But other base colors with a different degree can be used [5]. Attachment id 67934 and 67933 are GPL licensed.
KA=>ANDBA: This seems to be a user experience task initially. Please specify the correct behavior/ appearance of all mentioned tables.
OOo 3.3 is nearly final. Therefore I change the target of this issue to OOo 3.x.
