Description Joost Andrae 2007-06-14 15:11:53 UTC
JA->BM: this issue is a duplication of iBIS 106796

- We need a way to make the Y-Axis for a chart to be to the right of the chart
not to the left.

In Arabic, the Y-Axis should be to the right of the chart not to the left. This
applies to all applications

BM->FT: The axes are one of the most dangerous places in the old chart to
change, so I think the 6.y target is the preferrable choice. (In other words, I
think it is far too dangerous to fix this in the 6.1)
One question that arose from this bug was, whether the x-axis also points from
right to left (Does the logarithm-curve we know from school really look
different in an arabic school book?).
I would be happy to have some specification for this before we address this bug.

FT->WH: Hi Waleed, please write an initial feature catalogue what is needed to
accomplish a full RTL enabled Chart.
I need this comprehensive list for a spec. Thx.
Wh->FT: Falko, Please send me the specifications for the new latin chart engine
and i'll start from there.

Ft->BM: Björn, can you please provide Waleed with the needed information? Thx.

BM->FT: I wanted a spec from you, now I should provide one? We still have no
specification for the new chart. We are currently working on a prototype until
we get one. We might include new features in the new engine, but our first step
goal is to develop a replacement for the old engine with the same functionality.

FT->BM: No worries, I'm not asking for a full-blown spec.
I'm asking for your technical specification of feature you want to/will
implement into the new engine.
Please send this list of planned features to Waleed so he can add and/or comment
on your plans. Thx.

BM->FT: I have no technical specification for the old chart. Maybe the old chart
was developed without a spec ...
I just need to know, what is expected from an RTL chart. How should this look
like. Is the y-axis typically on the right hand-side, do the numbers or
categories on the x-axis go from right to left, is the legend typically on the left.
The new features for OOo 2.0/SO 8 are in my InTray, but I reckon that none of
them are relevant for RTL-mode things.

FT->MMP: Even though I do not think that there is enough time for 8 to implement
and specify a complete R2L Chart I still want to hear your opinion on the
feasibility of this feature. Is there any spec I could add this feature to? If
not or timefram is too short please state so that I can suggest to re-target
this issue. Thx.

BM: It looks to me that we can set this bug as duplicate to Issue i14365. ->MMP:
What do you think?

Added "arabic" keyword
Comment 2 bjoern.milcke 2007-09-26 17:35:37 UTC
->JA: Do you agree to set this issue as duplicate to issue 14365 . This one does
not contain a concrete issue, while issue 14365 does.
Comment 3 Joost Andrae 2007-09-27 08:56:13 UTC
JA->BM: from my perspective issue 78477 and issue 14365 contain different
content and I wouldn't like to set them as duplicates. If you include the

"- We need a way to make the Y-Axis for a chart to be to the right of the chart
not to the left.

In Arabic, the Y-Axis should be to the right of the chart not to the left. This
applies to all applications"

part of issue 14365 then go ahead

adapting summary to reflect what this issue is about.

I see this issue as an enhancement about exactly this: putting the y-axis of a
chart to the right instead of the left. (Whether the x-axis should be reversed
or not is still unclear).

For other issues concerning the chart and RTL query for summary beginning with
"RTL Chart". (Currently only Issue 14365 is another one of this kind).

JA->BM: let's discuss details about this issue within the iTeam. Retarget issue
to 3.1

I talked to Waleed to find out what is really expected for an Arabic chart and
created the following issues accordingly:

issue 91963 RTL Chart: reverse x axis per default for an Arabic version
issue 91973 RTL Chart: y-axis should be on the right side per default for an
Arabic version
issue 91968 RTL Chart: legend should be on the left per default for an Arabic
version
issue 91970 RTL Chart: legend symbols should be on the right side within the legend

I close this issue now as it is polluted with useless and confusing discussions.
