Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 80259
Show less handles for selected line data series
Last modified: 2013-09-25 20:41:46 UTC
Create a line or scatter chart out of many data points (e.g. 3,000). Select a series: you get one green handle for each point (i.e. 3,000). If you turn on smooth lines with a resolution of 20 (default), you'll get 60,000 handles. Obviously, this seems to be too much. The attached example contains a scatter-plot series with 3,000 data points and smooth lines (splines) switched on. On Linux I got the impression that the office hangs, on Windows I got the visual effect that you can see in the attachment. Maybe we should show one handle per data point as a first step (no handles for the intermediate points), and then have an upper bound that reduces the handles to every second, thrird, ... like the auto-label positioning at an axis. Not sure whether to set this to enhancement or defect, as it seems to be a defect for extreme examples.

Just noticed that you have to switch on smooth lines in the attachment before getting the 60,000 handles.
