Description isr81 2007-10-08 15:56:05 UTC
Having created a chart and trying to change the data range by dragging (using
"select data range" icon, not the text box), works only if one clicks on the
spreadsheet window before the selected cells get highlighted.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create data and a corresponding chart.
2. Double click the chart --> right click --> Data ranges
3. Use the "select data range" icon to change the value by mouse selecting the
cells (it probably won't work the first time).
4. End the selection mode.
5. The data ranges window reappears and after a few seconds the selected cells
become highlighted.

There are two cases now:

a. If one clicks on the spreadsheet window before the cells become highlighted,
the selection using "select data range" button works (for the next time).

b. If one does *not* click in the window before the cells become highlighted,
then the selection using "select data range" button does not have any results.

changed component to Chart and re-assigned

One additional idea for selection handling.

Hm, I cannot reproduce the problem.
As I understand the scenario b is the defect one, but for me it works.
Just a guess:
Did you select a single series before opening the range dialog?
Because then the highlighted range that appears 'after a few seconds' is the
range of the selected series only and not of the whole diagram.

As I discovered, it should be a window manager situation.
(In response to kla, this is a defect, not an enhancement idea. Perhaps my
description was misunderstood.)

The described problem was initially discovered using KDE 3.5.4. On a second
machine, using KDE 3.5.7, I could not make an area selection even with the
clicking "trick".
On XFCE 4.4.1, the selection worked correctly, with or without clicking on the
main window. On Blackbox, the problem was the same as in the situation of KDE 3.5.4.
Could not try it on Gnome, as I don't have it currently installed (should be as
XFCE though).

I should mention that the highlighting worked correctly on XFCE, but not so well
with the other environments.

Thanks for the further infos! I think this is a duplicate of issue 80446.
It should be fixed in OOG680m7 (2.3.1 code line) and SRC680m234 (2.4 code line).
