Just downloaded OpenOffice. OO opened my Excel 5.0 file OK. But the charts 
disappeared when OO saved the file under a different filename. Neither OO nor 
Excel had the charts when I reopened the file.

A known problem or did I goof up something?

saving charts in Excel95-fileformat is not implemented and is not 
targeted for future development due to EOL of this filter. Save as 
Excel97 will save the charts.
