Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 87594
trendline (regression curve) crashes Excel 2007
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:19:14 UTC
Simple .xls spreadsheet with exponential regression curve in XY Chart crashes Excel 2007 every time. To reproduce, open 4_curve.xls (made in OOo 2.4.0 Linux) in Excel 2007. Eventually, Excel 2007 recovers the file without the chart. I also tested OOo 2.3.1 with same results.

The same happens with Excel 2003, but I don´t know if this must be called a "bug" - Calc and Excel charts are incompatible in many ways.
I think there is a regression. Around December, I had the same or similar working with a developer's snapshot of OOo 2.4.0 with Excel 2003. A few months later (now), I went back to update my article with the OOo 2.4.0 final, and then I noticed the crash with Excel 2007.
confirmed, pls have a look. kla

fixed in cws DEV300/dr61 (OOo 3.0)
FWIW, no crash in Excel 2003
This does not appear to be fixed. Beta 3.0 shows this same issue. Beta 3 also can lose existing trendlines saved in Excel 2007.
A point of clarity -- Chart loses Excel's polynomial trendlines. Linear trendlines carry over. But again, saving the document with a linear trendline in Chart will crash Excel when Excel tries to open it.
This fix is not part of a released version of OOo yet. Target is OOo 3.0, so it will be integrated in the 3.0 Final. Our chart component does not support polynomial trendlines, see issue 20819, therefore the Excel import filter drops these trendlines.
OK, the fix was dated April 2 and the code freeze for the 3.0 beta was April 3 so I assumed it had made it. I'll try testing this again with the next beta.
DR->OC: to verify, create a simple chart with trendline, save as XLS, load in Excel 2007. back to QA
verified in internal build cws_dr61
verified in OOO310m9 - can be closed
This issue is closed automatically and wasn't rechecked in a current version of OOo. The fixed issue should be integrated in OOo since more than half a year. If you think this issue isn't fixed in a current version (OOo 3.1), please reopen it and change the field 'Target Milestone' accordingly.
