In charts, titles (this includes titles, subtitles, axes labels), cannot handle
character formatting in any way. While typing a title in the initial entry, you
can't make certain characters bold, or make them subscripts for instance. The
same holds true if you try to edit them afterwards, even though the edited
element looks a lot like a draw text object (which allows such things). I can
also remember that this defect has been here from at least 2.0.

Yes this is  a missing feature. It is requested with issue 6521 already.
