Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 98344
incorrect font size in charts
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:20:45 UTC
Certain Writer documents that export correctly to PDF in 2.4 do not export correctly to PDF in 3.0. Specifically, these documents contains charts which were inserted into the document as OLE objects. The font size on the chart labels in the PDF export made by 3.0 is significantly reduced for no apparent reason and results in unacceptable output. Current workaround is to use 2.4 for these PDF exports but this is not sustainable in the long run. A Writer file as well as PDFs produced from it with 2.4 and 3.0 are attached.

I checked with "Ooo 3.0.0 (DE) Multilingual version German UI WIN XP: [OOO300m9 (Build9358)]" and can confirm the reported effect for "Kolfinna final.odt", but not with my own test documents (may be I do something wrong?). No problem with "2.4.1 Multilingual version English UI WIN XP: [680m17(Build9310)]". @iwatson: Can you please contribute a more detailed step-by-step instruction hard to create a sample document with 2.4?
I can confirm the problem. it is nothing special about the PDF export, it also occurs when you simply double click on the charts so they are rendered freshly. There is a problem in the files themselves. They contain style:text-position="0% 58%" which is a instruction to scale the font size down to 58% of its regular size. It would be interesting how these charts were created. Have they been migrated from Microsoft Charts in the past? The bad thing is that the wrong text scaling cannot be switched off in the user interface so far. But I will attach a corrected file that does not have the problem anymore.

Many thanks for diagnosing the problem and for the corrected document. The chart was originally created in Microsoft Excel and then copied into Microsoft Word, and then the document was opened and edited in Writer. However I think I later, while trying to fix the problem, copied it in again from Excel, either directly from an open Excel window or by opening the Excel document with Chart -- I am not sure. It would have been great to be able to diagnose the problem within OpenOffice and thanks for any efforts in that direction.
Thanks for the info! Indeed the wrong information in the file is created during import from excel. I fixed this now in that way that the wrong property is ignored during rendering. Thus when the fix gets integrated all the documents you created should display the font size again that is set in the user interface. The creation of wrong files will be fixed within the separate issue 91800. Fixed in CWS aw063.
AW->WG: This is a chart fix, please forward to chart testing, maybe ask IHA.
IHA->WG/KLA: To verify, load the attached document "Kolfinna final.odt" and double click on any chart. The font size should not reduced by 58% anymore when the chart is rendered freshly. Thanks!
Verified in CWS.
Tested in OOO310_m3. Closed.
