Scientists and accountants have different needs about graphing

Scientists need the default graph to be XY whereas accountants expect bargraphs

Changing the default at each graph generation is to time consuming and prevents
calc being used widely in scientific community.

A new tab in tools > options should be defined to allow various changes at the
chart level

Yes this is a good idea. The issue is related to issue 12581 (customizable chart
defaults).
