Description Stefan Weigel 2008-12-08 07:23:15 UTC
The bug is the wrong wording in the GUI and in the online help, where
"correlation coefficent" is used for the determination coefficient.

When inserting a trend line into a chart you can choose to display R².

R² is the determination coefficent
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coefficient_of_determination) that could also be
calculated by using the RSQ function in Calc.

The determination coefficent R² is the square of the correlation coefficent R
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_coefficient). The latter could also be
calculated by using the PEARSON function in Calc.

See the attached screenshots for wrong wording in the GUI and in the online help.

ufi->iha: when you fix this issue please tell me the cws, so I can update the
help in that same cws.
Comment 6 IngridvdM 2009-02-11 13:08:35 UTC
I fixed the wrong wording in the dialog in CWS chart37.
The new string is 'Show ~coefficient of determination (R²)'.
I also corrected the specification accordingly:
http://specs.openoffice.org/chart/Trendlines.odt

@ufi, please update the help in CWS chart37 accordingly, thanks!

@kla, please verify in CWS chart37.

This issue should be reopened until translations are updated.

I come to this bug because I just found this issue while doing my work on a
French localized version of OpenOffice. I saw it has been corrected in sources
for the next release:
chart2/source/controller/dialogs/res_Trendline_tmpl.hrc has
CheckBox CB_SHOW_CORRELATION_COEFF \
[...]
    Text[ en-US ] = "Show ~coefficient of determination (R²)"; \

However, looking at translation shows me that this bug has not been corrected
here (yet ?). I looked in l10n/source/en-GB/localize.sdf and found:
chart2 source\controller\dialogs\res_Trendline_tmpl.hrc 0 checkbox
       RESOURCE_TRENDLINE(availablewidth, yoffset) CB_SHOW_CORRELATION_COEFF
      HID_SCH_TRENDLINE_SHOW_R_SQUARED !defined
_CHART2_RESOURCE_TRENDLINE_HXX 0 en-GB Show ~correlation coefficient
(R²) 2002-02-02 02:02:02

And in l10n/source/fr/localize.sdf:
chart2 source\controller\dialogs\res_Trendline_tmpl.hrc 0 checkbox
       RESOURCE_TRENDLINE(availablewidth, yoffset) CB_SHOW_CORRELATION_COEFF
      HID_SCH_TRENDLINE_SHOW_R_SQUARED !defined
_CHART2_RESOURCE_TRENDLINE_HXX 0 fr Afficher le coefficient de
~corrélation (R²) 2002-02-02 02:02:02

(in French, R² is "coefficient de détermination". R itself is "coefficient de
corrélation")

I do not check other languages.

I saw at the head of the localize.sdf files that they are generated files. So I
do not know if they are really up-to-date (nothing in the header tell me where
are the sources).

I made all these checks on the tip:
$ hg tip

In spanish is bad translated, it said "Coeficiente determinado" like saying
"Determined coefficient" in english it should be "Coeficiente de determinación"

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coeficiente_de_determinaci%C3%B3n
